Our friends at NY Piano School asked our president, Sarah Binder Mehta, to sit down for a conversation about pianos. It ran on their blog in July.
Sarah is the third generation of her family in the piano business. She grew up in her father's store, stamping brochures on weekends and playing underneath the display pianos, then practiced law for about eleven years before coming back. The conversation covers what happened next: a rental program her father had started as a retirement hobby, now serving families across the Northeast and Southern California.
She also gets into the part we care about most. A piano in the living room is a gathering place, a screen-free hour, the thing people still tell stories about forty years later. Renting is how you get there without turning it into a decision you have to agonize over first.
As she puts it: "We want to make having a piano fun and easy."
