An Avery Bond console piano

Avery Bond Pianos

Avery Bond is our house brand—pianos we designed ourselves after decades of visiting factories across Japan, Korea, and China. We spec’d the touch, the tone, and the cabinetry for the way our customers actually live: compact spaces, real practice needs, and neighbors on the other side of the wall.

You won’t find Avery Bond in other piano stores. These instruments exist because we couldn’t find exactly what we wanted from anyone else—so we built it.

Most people researching pianos plan to buy. The smart move? Rent first, decide later. The right piano reveals itself after weeks of playing—not from a spec sheet.

The Avery Bond Origin Story

The Binder family (that’s us!)  has been in the piano business since the 1920s. Over the years, we’ve visited more than 45 factories across Asia—nearly annual trips to Japan, Korea, China, and beyond—evaluating dozens of manufacturers, hundreds of instruments, and very occasionally sampling excellent street food (okay, more than occasionally).

Most piano brands are built to hit a price point for a global market. We wanted something different: a piano spec’d for our customers. That meant cabinets sized for New York apartments, not suburban living rooms. Touch and tone tuned for real daily practice, not a showroom demo. And cases that look like furniture suited to real homes, not just showrooms.

We found a factory partner willing to build to our exact specifications—materials, voicing, regulation, cabinetry—and the Avery Bond line was born, named for our niece, Avery. It's not a heritage brand with a century of backstory. It’s a working piano designed by people (us!) who’ve been renting and maintaining pianos for 50 years and know exactly what holds up and what doesn’t in the real spaces people play in.

We wanted something crafted to that high standard.

What Makes Avery Bond Different

Every other brand we rent was designed for the general market. Avery Bond was designed for our market.

Compact by design. Cabinets and scale lengths chosen to fit “almost any space”—especially the kind of spaces our customers actually have. If you live in an apartment in New York, Boston, or Philadelphia, this piano was literally designed with your typical floor plan in mind.  We even added a small front leg so the piano is easier to move in and around stairs, but has the extra stability for apartment floors.  We also designed it to be a workhorse--two yearly tunings will do the trick, a characteristic it shares with Samick and Young Chang.

Versatile touch. Voiced and regulated to suit beginners, teachers, and performers equally. Not pigeonholed as a “student” instrument—this is a piano that works for daily practice at any level.

Silent system option. The SILENT Continental Deluxe is a full acoustic piano with an integrated silent system. Flip a switch: the hammers stop before they hit the strings, sensors detect your playing, and the sound goes to your headphones instead. You still feel a real piano. Your family and neighbors hear nothing. New York Magazine’s Strategist called it out as an especially convenient option for apartment dwellers. Starting at $129 with a silent system, it’s an unheard-of value.

New pianos are stiff. They can need up to 4 tunings in the first year just to settle. That's why professional musicians prefer played-in instruments—a piano develops its character over time. You wouldn't run a marathon in brand new shoes. Our rentals are already played in and arrive at your home ready for practice.

OUR AVERY BOND PRODUCT FAMILY

Avery Bond Upright Pianos

Avery Bond 43” Continental Deluxe Piano

Compact continental console designed to fit tight spaces while still looking like furniture, not gear. A versatile daily practice piano with comfortable touch and balanced tone. Ideal for beginners through teachers who need a reliable instrument that doesn’t take over the room.

Avery Bond 43” SILENT Continental Deluxe Piano

Same footprint as the standard Continental Deluxe, with integrated Genio silent technology. Practice through headphones at 2 AM without waking anyone up. When you want acoustic sound, flip the switch back—it’s a full acoustic piano either way.

This is the piano that solves the apartment problem. You want a real instrument with real hammers and real strings, but you have neighbors and odd practice hours. The SILENT Continental Deluxe gives you both: genuine acoustic feel when the building is awake, headphone practice when it isn’t.

How Avery Bond Compares to Other Brands We Carry

We rent Yamaha, Young Chang, Weber, Samick, and other brands alongside Avery Bond. Each has its own personality. Here’s how Avery Bond fits in:

Versus Yamaha and Kawai:
Avery Bond trades some brand-badge recognition for a custom-tuned experience and better value at rental prices. You’re not paying for the name on the fallboard—you’re paying for the spec underneath it.

Versus Weber and Young Chang:
Weber and Young Chang lean on heritage brand stories and distinct tonal personalities (Weber warmer, Young Chang brighter). Avery Bond leans on our curatorial expertise and its optimization for apartment living and silent practice. We love Young Chang and Weber and developed Avery Bond in part to fill the gap left when they stopped making consoles.

Versus anonymous imports:
Avery Bond is openly specified by a family that’s been in the piano rental business for 50 years and staked their reputation on how these pianos feel and hold up over years in the field. There’s nothing anonymous about it.

Who Avery Bond Is For

Avery Bond fits people whose living situation is part of the piano decision—not just their playing level.

Apartment Building Icon

Apartment dwellers who need a real acoustic piano but have constraints on noise and footprint. The SILENT model was designed specifically for this.

Calendar

People and families with busy lifestyles. With a silent piano you can practice at night while your kids are asleep. Or early, before school. One kid can be doing homework while the other practices the piano. A silent piano offers the option to play how and when you want.

Teacher in front of a chalkboard

Teachers who want a compact, capable studio instrument with consistent touch for students of all levels. This is the only console we would recommend to teachers because of its stability and relative ability to be moved room to room.

dollar sign in a word balloon

Anyone who prioritizes feel over brand name and wants a piano that was designed around how people actually use pianos at home, not how they look in a showroom.

joined eighth notes

Serious hobbyists and performers who value the combination of a satisfying acoustic action with the flexibility of silent practice. Practice at midnight, perform at noon—same piano.

ruler

Anyone who wants the option to keep the piano in a smaller space. This piano is often put in kids’ rooms, dining rooms, entryways, and moved easily--it won’t be in your way.

We’re a rental company. We buy pianos we want to own forever—so our grandkids can rent them to your grandkids. You can purchase if you want, but that’s not our goal. We just want you to play it, love it, and send it back when you’re done so we can find a new home for it. That’s why we only buy quality instruments that will last forever.

Why Avery Bond Makes a Great Rental

Avery Bond was designed from the start around the realities of rental: resilient enough for long-term use, flexible enough to meet a wide range of player types, and compact enough to fit the spaces where our customers actually live.

Try the silent system before you commit. Silent pianos are a game-changer for apartment living—but you won’t know if it’s right for you until you’ve lived with one. Rent the SILENT Continental Deluxe, practice through headphones for a few months, and find out whether silent mode is something you use every day or just once in a while.

Experience our house spec. We designed these pianos to our own standards after 50 years in the business. Renting lets you find out whether our taste matches yours—no commitment, no risk.

Switch if your needs change. Start with an Avery Bond console, switch to a baby grand if you want more. Or switch to a Yamaha, Weber, or Young Chang if you want a different sound. No penalty.

100% first-year credit toward purchase. If you fall in love, apply your rental payments toward buying that piano—or any other in our inventory of equal or greater value.
